WhipCode
An open-source coding agent with recursive task delegation, searchable context, and persistent sessions accessible through terminal and web clients.

WhipCode is an open-source coding agent for developers tackling jobs that exceed a single model context window. It lets agents divide the work while you follow their progress and send further instructions.
- Recursive delegation: Agents split jobs into focused tasks, launch subagents and coordinate through messages.
- Searchable context: Agents search conversation history, project files and large tool results, then read relevant portions without loading everything into one prompt.
- Work visibility: Inspect conversations, the task tree and execution timeline, alongside model usage and cost tracking.
- Persistent sessions: A shared daemon keeps work running when you close a client window and lets you reconnect later through the terminal UI or web client.
- Model and tool control: Choose models, set tool permissions, connect local or remote execution hosts, and extend agents with skills and MCP servers.
WhipCode uses the Apache 2.0 license. Its Go-based agent application runs as a single binary without a separate runtime. The agent runs locally, but model requests go to the provider you select.
