Writeopia

Writeopia is a writing and note-taking app for people who want AI assistance while keeping their documents on their own computer. It runs on Windows, Linux and macOS, with offline access to locally stored notes and a choice of AI models that run on your device. It's aimed at writers, developers and researchers working on drafts, documentation or personal notes.

Storage is your choice. You can keep documents locally or sync them through a cloud service you select. With local storage and local AI, your documents and model interactions stay on your device. Cloud sync sends documents to the service you choose. Writeopia states that it doesn't track users, collect their data, show ads or sell data, and it supports end-to-end encryption with AES-256.

Public file formats and export support matter if you want to move your writing to another app later. You don't have to keep using Writeopia to retain access to your documents. The project is free and open source under AGPL-3.0, so its code is available for inspection and modification.

Writeopia also includes a separately MIT-licensed Kotlin SDK for developers who need rich text editing inside their own apps. It supports text with media and has independent components for headers, lists and images. The SDK uses Kotlin Multiplatform to target Android, iOS, desktop and web, with separate modules for the editor interface, persistence and networking.
