Aiko

Aiko is a paid, native transcription app for macOS, iOS and visionOS that processes speech on your device with OpenAI's Whisper model. It's for people turning meetings, lectures or other recordings into text while keeping the audio local, including sensitive recordings.

It can transcribe audio and video files, as well as recordings made in the app. It supports languages including English, Chinese, Ukrainian, Arabic and Spanish, though accuracy varies by language. You can keep the transcript in the original language or translate speech into English. Transcription and translation require separate passes if you need both results.

Exports include SRT subtitles, JSON and CSV, so the output can go into a video project, a text editor or another application. Apple Shortcuts support connects transcription to recording workflows, Notes and Finder Quick Actions. Shortcuts can also handle batches of files; the app doesn't have built-in batch transcription.

The Mac app uses Whisper's large model, while iOS uses the medium or small model according to available memory. Device performance and memory affect processing speed. Aiko is written in Swift and SwiftUI, and its Universal Purchase covers the supported Apple platforms.

Aiko works with completed recordings rather than live speech. It doesn't identify speakers or let you edit transcripts inside the app. It accepts audio and video formats supported by macOS and iOS, including MP3, M4A, WAV, MP4 and MOV, but it doesn't accept Ogg files.
