Goose
An open source AI agent for macOS, Windows, and Linux, with desktop and CLI apps and a choice of Ollama or hosted model providers.
Goose is a general-purpose AI agent that runs on your computer. It suits people who want an agent for coding, research, writing, automation, or data analysis, without committing to one model provider. The desktop app runs on macOS, Windows, and Linux; there's also a CLI for terminal work and an API for use in other software.
You can pair Goose with Ollama to run models locally, or use hosted providers including Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, OpenRouter, Azure, and Bedrock. The agent runs on your machine, while requests to hosted models go to the provider you choose. It can also use existing Claude, ChatGPT, or Gemini subscriptions through the Agent Client Protocol (ACP).
Model Context Protocol (MCP) extensions give Goose access to tools such as databases, browsers, GitHub, and Google Drive. Some extensions add interactive forms, buttons, and visualizations inside the desktop app. Goose can work as an ACP server in Zed, JetBrains, and VS Code, and it can use ACP agents such as Claude Code and Codex as providers.
For repeated work, recipes store instructions and tool choices in shareable YAML files that can run in CI. Subagents can take on separate tasks in parallel. Tool permission controls, sandbox mode, prompt injection detection, and an adversary reviewer provide ways to check actions involving files and external tools. Goose is written in Rust and is open source under Apache 2.0.
