Joplin Jarvis is an AI assistant for people who keep their writing, research, or personal knowledge in Joplin on desktop and mobile. It connects conversations to your existing notes and supports local LLMs through Ollama alongside cloud services such as GPT, Claude, Gemini, and Hugging Face.
You can chat in a sidebar or within a note, limit a conversation to the current note, or draw context from your collection. Jarvis retrieves relevant excerpts for note-based conversations, and you can exclude individual notes from that process. Sidebar conversations can be saved as notes and continued there.
Semantic search finds related notes by meaning, using the current note, selected text, or a search query. It runs locally and offline by default, so this search doesn't send note contents to a remote server. You can also choose an online model for indexing. Chat privacy depends on your model choice: cloud models receive the prompts and note content used for the requested task.
For writing, Jarvis can extend text, edit a selection according to your instructions, and use reusable prompt templates. It can also add titles, summaries, tags, and links to notes.
Its literature review feature needs internet access and searches services including Semantic Scholar and Scopus, with paper sources such as Elsevier and Springer. It produces a report containing research questions, references, a review, and follow-up questions. Research queries go to the selected search service. The plugin is open source under AGPL-3.0.
