A local-first Markdown notes app with linked notes, Git integration, and AI assistance through Ollama, LM Studio or cloud providers.
Noted is a desktop notebook for people who want connected notes and AI help while keeping their writing in ordinary Markdown files. Notes live in a folder on your machine, where other editors and backup tools can use them.
- Editing and linked notes: Write with tables, highlighted code, math and images, connect notes with wikilinks and backlinks, and group related notes into projects.
- Search and capture: Search titles and note bodies, find notes by name, and record ideas in daily notes or a global Quick Capture window.
- AI assistance: Get inline suggestions, slash commands and contextual chat through local Ollama or LM Studio models, or use OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini and OpenRouter.
- Git and export: Commit and push notes or open GitHub pull requests within the app, and export writing as HTML, Markdown, PDF or DOCX.
- AI client access: A local MCP server lets compatible clients read, search and write notes, with agent workflows that support task dependencies and approval gates.
Noted runs on macOS, Windows and Linux, with Mac builds for Intel and Apple Silicon. It's open source under the MIT license, requires no account and collects no telemetry. Local model connections keep AI processing on your hardware. Cloud AI requests send content to the selected provider over the internet; optional personal-data masking can redact that content before an AI call.
