OpenSuperWhisper
An open-source macOS dictation app that runs Whisper and Parakeet models locally on Apple Silicon and transcribes microphone recordings or audio files.
OpenSuperWhisper is a local speech-to-text app for people who want to dictate or transcribe recordings on an Apple Silicon Mac. It supports Whisper and Parakeet, with model downloads available inside the app. The project is open source under the MIT license.
Recording controls suit different ways of working. You can trigger recording with a global keyboard shortcut, a single modifier key, or a middle or thumb mouse button. Hold-to-record mode captures speech while you press the trigger and stops when you release it. The menu also lets you copy the latest transcription.
For existing recordings, the app accepts audio files through drag and drop and processes them in a queue. You can choose a microphone from the menu bar, including built-in, external and Bluetooth microphones, or an iPhone connected through Apple Continuity. This gives it a role in both everyday dictation and transcription of saved audio.
Language support includes automatic detection and autocorrection for Japanese, Chinese and Korean text. For Hebrew, it offers ivrit.ai's Turbo V3 Hebrew model, a fine-tuned version of whisper-large-v3-turbo; choosing that model sets the input language to Hebrew automatically. It also accepts Whisper model files in the .bin format used by Whisper.cpp.
