Photonix is a self-hosted photo manager for photographers who want to find images across a large collection without relying on folder names. It combines camera metadata, your own tags and automatic image analysis to make photos searchable.

  • Automatic tagging: Find photos by person, object, artistic style or color; face recognition groups pictures of the same person so you can label them.
  • Location search: Use embedded GPS data to filter photos by country or nearby city and see their location on a map.
  • Photo versions: Keep RAW files, camera JPEGs and edits grouped together, with the latest detected edit as the preview and other versions accessible alongside it.
  • Browser viewing: View photos full screen across devices and inspect camera settings, dates and tags generated by image analysis.
  • Private and shared libraries: Give family members or colleagues separate collections and shared libraries, with access permissions for each user.

Photonix runs on your own server using Docker and is open source under AGPL-3.0. Object recognition runs within Photonix without sending images to an external service. Android and iPhone apps connect to your server; they require a server connection to provide useful functionality. The application remains in development and isn't feature complete.
