Meetily is presented as an open source Granola alternative that captures computer audio without adding a recording bot to the meeting. The speaker says it works with Zoom, Google Meet, Teams and Discord. In the demonstration, transcription continues after Wi-Fi is switched off, with speech recognition and punctuation running locally.
The desktop app uses Rust and Tauri with a Next.js front end. The speaker identifies NVIDIA Parakeet as the default transcription model, with Whisper as another option, and claims Parakeet runs about four times faster on Apple Silicon. Notes go into a local database. For Mac setup, the walkthrough recommends the Apple Silicon build, microphone and screen recording permissions, and separate models for transcription and summaries.
Summaries can use a local model through Ollama or a Claude or Grok API key. The speaker prefers cloud summaries for quality but explains the privacy tradeoff: audio stays on the computer while text leaves it. A local model supports fully offline notes.
The review also reports multilingual transcription problems and macOS permission friction in the pre-1.0 app. Although the demo describes speaker labels, the speaker later says the open source build cannot separate speakers yet. Viewers should treat that distinction as a limitation of the build discussed, rather than assume speaker identification is available.
