This tutorial walks through Omniroute, a self-hosted gateway for routing requests across AI providers. The presenter installs it through the terminal, notes that Node.js is required, and changes the initial dashboard password before connecting providers.

The setup covers connections without authentication, account login and API keys. Examples include OpenRouter, Groq, OrcaRouter and Nvidia NIM. The presenter tests model availability before enabling connections and shows that some requests fail. Free access varies by provider, and imported models are not necessarily all free.

A central distinction is where inference happens: running the dashboard on your computer still sends requests to provider servers in the demonstrated cloud setup. An Ollama connection can instead use a local LLM if the computer can run it.

The practical examples connect the Claude Code coding assistant and Hermes Agent to a "Best Free" routing combo. Logs show failed requests followed by a successful response through another provider. The presenter also creates a custom combo with a priority order and discusses weighted and round-robin routing.

For n8n, the walkthrough uses an OpenAI-compatible endpoint and a generated API key from a server-hosted instance. It closes with monitoring, prompt comparisons and VPS deployment. The demonstrated fallback behavior does not establish unlimited provider access.
