OpenHuman is an open source desktop AI agent that builds persistent memory from connected work services. This repository overview explains how it converts source material into Markdown chunks and summary trees, then retrieves original chunks when an answer needs detail. An Obsidian-compatible wiki lets users inspect and edit the stored knowledge. The speaker describes automatic fetching on a 20-minute cycle, subject to provider state and daily budgets.
The app combines a React and Tauri interface with a Rust core. Built-in tools cover file access, browser control, scheduling and memory search. Model routing selects configured models by task, while optional Ollama support handles local workloads such as embeddings and summaries. Background tasks can perform read-only checks; the described policy requires approval for write actions the user did not request.
The privacy boundary deserves attention. According to the cited docs, memory, the wiki and audio buffers stay on the user's machine, but a backend handles model calls, OAuth brokering, search and hosted speech. Local storage therefore does not establish fully offline operation.
The video discusses release v0.53.40, with macOS, Windows and Linux builds, and notes 0.53.41 in main-branch package files. It also covers the project's early beta status and GPL 3.0 license as considerations for adoption.
