ChatGPTBox
A free, MIT-licensed browser AI assistant that connects to Ollama, self-hosted models or cloud services for page summaries, translation and chat.
ChatGPTBox is a free, open-source browser extension for people who want AI help with the pages they read, search results and selected text. It works in Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari, with mobile support too. You can connect it to Ollama or a self-hosted model through its custom model mode, or use cloud services such as ChatGPT, Claude, Moonshot and Azure.
The extension runs in your browser; the connected service handles model responses. With Ollama, that service can run on your own hardware. Cloud connections send requests to the chosen provider. ChatGPTBox doesn't collect your data, and it sends prompts or page content to the configured AI service only when you trigger an AI feature. Activation is manual by default.
You can chat alongside a page, summarize its contents, or work on selected passages with translation, writing edits and code explanations. Search engine integration puts AI responses alongside searches. Site integrations cover Reddit, Quora, YouTube, GitHub, GitLab and StackOverflow, among others, with support for video summaries and Git analysis.
Floating chat windows support branching conversations, while a separate conversation page gives longer chats their own space. You can save full chat records or copy individual parts, and responses support syntax highlighting and mathematical formulas. Site integrations and text selection tools can be disabled individually. The project uses the MIT license and builds on josStorer/chatGPT-search-engine-extension.
