Grok Build

Terminal coding agent edits local files and runs commands. Default inference uses xAI; custom BYOK endpoints are supported. First-party code is Apache 2.0.

Grok Build is a terminal coding assistant whose runtime edits files and executes commands on your computer. The default connection uses xAI’s remote inference service and needs network access and authentication. Browser login, device codes and API keys are supported, and organizations can configure third-party BYOK endpoints.

The full-screen terminal interface accepts mouse input and retains conversation scrollback. The agent can inspect a codebase, make edits, search the web and manage tasks that take longer than a single exchange. Agent Client Protocol (ACP) support brings it into compatible editors, while headless operation suits scripts and continuous integration.

Local execution and cloud processing have separate boundaries. The client assembles prompts and file content locally, then sends them over an encrypted connection to the inference service. Tool execution happens in the local sandboxed environment, and the application saves session history on your machine. Remote session sync and sharing use a separate service that can be blocked while authentication and inference remain available.

Workspace checkpoints, sandbox profiles and permission rules help control the agent's actions. Organizations can enforce settings, restrict tools and integrate corporate identity providers; some existing Claude Code management policies are also compatible.

First-party Rust code uses Apache 2.0; third-party code retains its original licenses. Released binaries support macOS, Linux and Windows. The project doesn’t accept external contributions.
