Logseq
A local-first knowledge base that connects notes, tasks and PDF annotations. Stores notes locally in Markdown or Org-mode and uses the AGPL-3.0 license.
Logseq is an AGPL-3.0 knowledge base with an outline editor, linked references and block references. It combines note-taking with task management, PDF annotations and flashcards. Search and queries can gather related information into tables.
Its file-based graphs use Markdown and Org-mode, with notes stored locally and available to other tools. Desktop, browser, iOS and Android options are documented for this edition. Plugins and themes extend the workspace, and developers can build extensions through its plugin API.
The separate database version introduces DB graphs and a new approach to sync and collaboration. The project's README labels the DB version beta and its new mobile app and Real Time Collaboration alpha. It warns that data loss is possible and recommends automated backups or regular SQLite backups and a dedicated test graph. The new mobile app is available on iOS, with Android described as forthcoming.
AI features come from community extensions. Logseq Copilot indexes notes, retrieves relevant context for a chat prompt and can insert suggested notes. Its settings support a custom OpenAI base URL; the plugin documents connecting Ollama at a local OpenAI-compatible endpoint. Cloud connections send the selected note context to that provider. This is a separate plugin rather than a built-in Logseq feature.
