OpenMAIC is presented as an open source platform for generating interactive lessons from a topic or document. The tutorial demonstrates a classroom running on localhost, with an AI teacher, simulated classmates, slide notes and lecture chat. Its Strait of Hormuz example includes a quiz and an adjustable choke point simulation that illustrates effects on oil prices and traffic flow.
The setup walkthrough covers cloning the GitHub repository, installing dependencies with pnpm install, adding an AI provider key and starting the app with npm run dev. The presenter uses a Gemini API key obtained through Google AI Studio and selects Gemini 3.1 Pro for lesson generation. This is a self-hosted application demonstration with external AI services; it does not establish offline model execution.
Classroom settings include teacher and classmate roles, automatic role generation, English or Chinese course output, and separate options for image, video and speech models. The presenter leaves the video model unselected and explains how to configure external text-to-speech services. PDF parsing is also described as a way to generate courses from uploaded documents. The closing discussion suggests extending the source code with Claude Code and deploying the application on a personal server.
