herdr is a terminal multiplexer for managing several terminal sessions in one interface. The speaker demonstrates its client-server design by detaching from a coding agent session and returning after the agent has finished. Processes continue on the server while the client is closed, which also makes the setup useful on a remote VPS.

The walkthrough focuses on the agent sidebar. herdr detects supported coding agents and displays their sessions with activity indicators. A Claude Code example shows how this helps track work across projects. Workspaces contain tabs, and tabs contain panes; mouse controls and keyboard shortcuts let users create tabs, rename workspaces and split panes.

The speaker prefers this arrangement to desktop tools such as Codex and T3 Code because it retains CLI features, including Pi's / tree command, and supports plugins. An installed file viewer plugin lets the speaker inspect code and highlighted changes before giving an agent follow-up tasks. These preferences are the speaker's assessment, rather than a measured comparison.

The tutorial describes installation on Linux, macOS and Windows, with herdr running inside an existing terminal. It also demonstrates a remote connection over SSH to a VPS with herdr installed, while retaining the MacBook's key bindings and settings. The focus is terminal workflow; the video does not establish offline model execution or local inference.
