GenOffice is a Microsoft Office alternative for people who want to edit documents on their own computer and let an AI agent make changes inside the files. It works with native .docx, .xlsx and .pptx files alongside PDF, Markdown and HTML.
- Reviewable AI edits. Inspect tracked changes and diffs, undo an AI turn, and keep generated slides and spreadsheet formulas editable.
- Office file compatibility. Edit documents, build spreadsheets with live formulas and charts, and create presentations while preserving untouched file contents byte for byte.
- PDF editing and conversion. Change text directly on PDF pages or convert PDFs into editable Word, Excel and PowerPoint files locally, with system OCR for scans.
- Search and cited answers. Search document text through an on-device index, or ask questions across starred files and get answers with file citations.
- Coding agent integration. A CLI, agent skill and MCP server let Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and other assistants create, read, edit and convert files without opening the desktop app.
The suite is free and open source under Apache 2.0, with native apps for macOS, Windows and Linux. File editing, saving and conversion run on your machine. AI can use a local OpenAI-compatible server, your own key for providers such as Claude, OpenAI or Gemini, or a Genspark account that routes calls through its proxy. Cloud AI sends relevant content to the chosen provider. Optional TypeSafe Jev search reranking sends result excerpts to an external service; the search index stays local.
