Hindsight is a memory system for developers whose AI agents need to carry facts and experience across sessions. It combines stored memories into observations and maintains answers to recurring questions as more information arrives.

  • Persistent memory: Store world facts and agent experiences, then recall them or reason across them with reflection.
  • Knowledge pages: Maintain answers about subjects such as user preferences or project conventions in searchable documents that can appear on disk as Markdown.
  • Separate memory banks: Keep each user, agent or project's memories in an isolated store, with context that shapes reflection.
  • Coding assistant memory: Give Claude Code, Codex CLI and Cursor CLI project context drawn from Git history, past sessions and pages about architecture or ongoing work.
  • Memory protection: An optional policy checks incoming memories for secrets and personal information, then redacts matches or blocks the item before storage.

Hindsight is open source under the MIT license and supports Linux, macOS and Windows, with Docker and embedded database options. Direct installation on Intel Macs has a compatibility caveat and requires a separate slim package.

Integrations include LangGraph, LlamaIndex, n8n and Dify. A built-in MCP endpoint exposes memory storage, recall and reflection to compatible clients. SDK wrappers can automatically store and retrieve memories around model calls, with Anthropic SDK support and model access through LiteLLM.
