Khoj is an AI assistant for people who want to ask questions across their own files, research the web, and give recurring work to agents. You can self-host it on your computer or server, or use Khoj's cloud app. It's open source under the GNU AGPL v3.0 license.
Khoj searches documents by meaning, so you can find relevant material without remembering its exact wording. It works with PDFs, images, Markdown, Word and org-mode documents, and Notion files. You can also ask questions that draw on the web. Custom agents can use their own knowledge, persona, chat model and tools, while scheduled automations can handle recurring research and send newsletters or notifications to your inbox.
You can choose local LLMs such as Llama 3, Qwen, Gemma and Mistral, or online models including GPT, Claude, Gemini and DeepSeek. Khoj is accessible through a browser, desktop or phone, with access through Obsidian, Emacs and WhatsApp. It can generate images, accept spoken input and read messages aloud. The self-hosted app can run privately on your own hardware; web research and online models use external services.
